Gaslamp vs Wix restaurant menusWix builds the website. Gaslamp keeps the menu.

Wix is a website builder with a restaurant menu app and an ordering app on top. If you are building your restaurant’s site anyway, its menu is right there. Gaslamp is only the menu: the QR code on the table, the phone edit, and the printed PDF. Here is how they line up, from wix.com on September 29, 2026.

What the Wix restaurant menu is

Wix sells websites. For restaurants it adds apps: Wix Restaurants Menus, which is “Free to install,” and Wix Restaurants Orders for pickup, delivery, and dine-in orders, plus table reservations. The menu lives on your Wix site. Wix’s help center, checked on September 29, 2026, puts the line plainly: “You need to upgrade your site to accept online orders and payments. Having said that, you can still display your restaurant menu on your site without a plan.”

The menus app is capable. It builds “as many food menus as you need, for lunch, dinner, drinks, desserts or daily specials,” with several photos per dish, dietary and allergen labels, and translation through Wix Multilingual. It imports a menu from a PDF, image, CSV, or Excel file, though “only text-based menu items are imported from PDF files.” And it prints: pick a template, customize it, and download a PDF.

Gaslamp is only the menu, and it does not need a website. Pick one of eight designs, type your dishes over the sample menu, and you get a hosted menu page, a QR code that never changes, printable table tents, and a print-ready PDF. You edit it from your phone browser. It links from any website, Wix included.

Where Wix wins

  • You get a whole website. Pages, a domain on paid plans, and the menu inside it. Gaslamp gives you a menu page, not a site.
  • Guests can order and book. Commission-free ordering, table reservations, and QR ordering for dine-in, on a paid plan. Gaslamp takes no orders.
  • A free way to put a menu online. The menus app is free and can display your menu on a free Wix site. Gaslamp has no free plan.
  • More menu features. Several photos per dish, your own labels, translation, imports from CSV and Excel, and a Square POS sync. Gaslamp has one photo per item, eight tags, English only, and no sync.
  • Loyalty, coupons, gift cards. Wix lists all three for restaurants. Gaslamp has none.

Where Gaslamp wins

  • No website project. If you have a site you like, or a site someone else manages, you do not rebuild it to fix the menu. Set the menu up in Gaslamp and link to it.
  • A code built for reading, printed once. Wix’s QR codes are set up for ordering. Gaslamp’s code opens the menu, the same one for every table, and never changes. The table tents come ready to print.
  • The design is done. Eight designs made for restaurant menus; you type the dishes, the design sets them. You do not place anything on a page.
  • One screen for the whole edit. Change the price, hide the dish, save. The hosted menu and the next PDF both have it. There is no site editor to open.
  • One price for the menu. $19 a month, with the QR menu included in the free trial.
From the floorAsk who will change the menu on a Saturday. If the answer is “whoever built the website,” and that person is not in the building on Saturdays, the menu will be wrong on Saturdays.

Who should pick which

Pick Wix if you are building or rebuilding the restaurant’s website, you want online ordering without a marketplace, or you want table reservations and gift cards in the same place. For that restaurant, putting the menu in the Wix menus app is the sensible choice, and it can print too.

Pick Gaslamp if the website is fine, or is not yours to change, and the menu is what goes out of date: the QR code opens last season’s PDF, the paper menu has pen on it, and the person with the site login is not the person who knows the fish sold out. Gaslamp fixes the menu and nothing else, for $19 a month.

Both at once works too. Many Wix restaurants will link a “Menu” button to their Gaslamp hosted menu and put the Gaslamp code on the tables. The menu then lives in one place, edited from a phone, and the website points to it.

Linking Gaslamp from a Wix site

  1. Publish your menu in Gaslamp and copy the hosted menu link.
  2. In your Wix site, point the Menu button or menu page link to that address.
  3. Print the Gaslamp QR code on table tents. It opens the same menu the website links to.
  4. From then on, edit the menu in Gaslamp only. The website link never changes.

The same link belongs in your Google Business Profile. Our guide to adding a menu to Google Business Profile explains which option stays right.

What Gaslamp does not do

  • No website builder, embed, or custom domain.
  • No ordering, payments, reservations, loyalty, or gift cards.
  • No POS sync, no translation, no scheduled menus.
  • Up to three labeled prices per item, from $1 to $9,999, and 12 sections of 20 items per menu.

The verdict

Wix is a good way to build a restaurant website, and its menu app is a real menu tool for the restaurant already inside Wix. Gaslamp is for the restaurant that needs the menu right in print and behind the QR code without a website project. If you need a site, pick Wix. If you need the menu, pick Gaslamp, and link it from whatever site you have. For more options, see every comparison we have written.

Questions we get asked

Is the Wix restaurant menu free?
The Wix Restaurants Menus app is “Free to install,” and Wix’s help center says “you can still display your restaurant menu on your site without a plan.” A free Wix site uses a wixsite.com address and shows Wix branding. Taking online orders and payments needs a paid plan.
How much does Wix cost for a restaurant?
On September 29, 2026, wix.com/plans (US display, yearly plans paid in full) listed Light at $17 a month, Core at $29, Business at $39, and Business Elite at $159, with a sale running on some plans that week. The plan cards list “Accept payments” on Core and above. Monthly-billing prices were not listed.
Can Wix make a printed menu with a QR code?
Yes. Wix’s help center describes choosing “one of our pre-designed templates” to customize a printable menu and downloading it as a PDF, with a toggle to add a QR code “for customers to scan and order online.” The number of print templates is not listed.
Does the Wix QR code change when I edit the menu?
Wix does not say. Its dine-in QR codes point to ordering on your Wix site. Gaslamp’s QR code never changes: it opens your hosted menu, and edits show about thirty seconds after you save.
Should I build a Wix site or use Gaslamp?
If you need a website, online ordering, or reservations, build the Wix site. If your website is fine and the menu is what goes stale, Gaslamp is $19 a month and links from any site, Wix included.
