Indian restaurant menu makerEvery table asks how hot. Put it on the menu.
An Indian menu gets questioned at the table all night. How hot is the vindaloo, is the dal vegan, is there cream in the korma, how many pieces come in the tikka. Then there is the lunch buffet, the thali, and a bread basket everybody adds to. Gaslamp puts those answers in the menu itself, on paper and behind the QR code, and lets you change a price or pull a dish from your phone.

What changes on an Indian restaurant menu, and how often
A menu is designed once and edited forever. These are the edits this kind of place makes, and what each one takes in Gaslamp.

| The change | How often | In Gaslamp |
|---|---|---|
| The lunch buffet price moves | Once or twice a year | The buffet is one item at one price, with the days and hours in the note under the section heading. Change the number on your phone and save; guests see it on the QR menu within about thirty seconds. |
| The thali changes | Daily or weekly | The thali is one line. Rewrite its description with today’s dal, sabzi, and sweet. |
| A tandoor item runs short | Most weekends | Mark it sold out and save; it shows struck through on the QR menu within about thirty seconds. Put it back on when the next batch is marinated. |
| A recipe changes what it can be tagged | When a cook or a supplier changes | Check the vegan and dairy-free tags when ghee, cream, or yogurt goes into a dish that did not have it. Gaslamp shows what you tag; it does not read recipes. |
| Lunch ends and dinner begins | Every day | Gaslamp does not switch by the clock. Leave the Lunch buffet section up with its hours in the note, or hide it after lunch and show it again in the morning. |
10:30 a.m.
Buffet price up at 10:30. Right on the QR before the doors open.
Lamb and cream both came in higher this month. Before the buffet opens, type 17.99 over 16.99 for the weekday lunch buffet and save. The window code shows the new price about thirty seconds later. The printed card at the buffet line changes when you print the new PDF.
The editor runs in your phone’s browser; there is no app to install. The menu rebuilds in about two seconds, and phones that scan the code see the change about thirty seconds after you save.

Start with Upscale Contemporary
Charcoal and gold with thin rules and nothing decorative, which keeps the page quiet on a menu where every description carries a spice level, and holds the same type and spacing whoever edits the curries.
Start from the sample menu set in Upscale Contemporary, then type your dishes and prices over it in the editor. After that, the job is keeping it right from your phone.
Where the QR code goes
Each menu gets one code, and it never changes. Print it once; every edit after that shows up behind it. Gaslamp makes the printable pieces for you.
From the floor: Write the heat into every description in the same words every time: mild, medium, hot. The server stops explaining it table by table, and the guest who cannot take heat reads it without having to ask.
- Table tentfor the second naan and the kulfi, with the heat of each dish right there for the guest who is nervous about it
- Buffet line cardat the start of the buffet, so guests read what is vegan and what has nuts before they fill a plate
- Window signwith the lunch buffet days and price, for the office crowd
Good to know before you start
- Spice is a tag, not a scale. The spicy tag marks a dish as hot; the level, and “can be made mild”, goes in the description.
- No time-of-day switching. The buffet stays up with its hours in the note under the section heading until you hide it; Gaslamp does not take it down after lunch.
- Up to three labeled prices per item, so a half and a full tandoor order share one line. Plain naan and garlic naan are separate lines.
- Tags show what you set. Gaslamp does not check recipes for ghee, cream, cashew, or wheat, so check the tags when a recipe changes.
Indian restaurant menu questions
- How do I show spice levels on an Indian menu?
- Write the level in each description, for example “medium, can be made mild”, and add the spicy tag to the dishes that are hot as served. Gaslamp has one spicy tag, not a scale, so the words in the description carry the level.
- How do I list a lunch buffet on a QR menu?
- As one item at the buffet price, in its own section, with the days and hours in the note under the heading. Gaslamp does not show or hide it by the clock; leave it up with the hours or hide it after lunch.
- Can I mark vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes?
- Yes. Gaslamp has vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, spicy, halal, and keto tags, and they show on the menu guests read. Check vegan and dairy-free carefully wherever ghee, cream, or yogurt is involved.
- How do I price naan and extra rice?
- Give breads their own section, with each naan, roti, and paratha at its own price, and put extra rice and raita in Sides. Gaslamp shows the prices; it does not add them to a curry or total the check.
- How much does it cost?
- Start with a 30-day free trial, no credit card needed. Then it is $19 a month, or $190 a year (2 months free). No setup fee. Cancel anytime. The trial includes one published live menu with QR codes. PDF downloads and additional menus start when you pick a plan.
